This paper investigates the self and self-less forms in Caxton’s Paris and Vienne (1485) and compares the result with the corresponding forms in two French versions of the same text, Le Roy in Lyon (c. 1480) and Leeu in Antwerp (1487). It demonstrates that while the inventory of self forms in Caxton seems to be relatively stable, there are still some verbs that are likely to occur without self.
