Nicholas LoveのSpeculum Vite Cristi (1494)を題材に、中英語における人称代名詞の hit と it のテキスト内のヴァリエーションを社会言語学的な視点から議論しました。古英語ではhitという形態をとっていた三人称中性の人称代名詞がh-droppingによりitになる主な変化は中英語後期に起こります。変動期には両者の分布に興味深い傾向が見られることを具体的なテキストの分析を通して明らかにします。
